Our History:

Numurkah Engineering was established in the early 1980’s and operated in the traditional sense of an engineering shop. Welding, machining, fabrication and steel sales were the core elements of the business as it began to grow. The business changed hands and commonly became known as “Kelly Engineering”.

Proprietor Phil Kelly’s business developed a reputation of a “can do” attitude. It catered to the growing Numurkah town-ship, performing everything from small motor repairs, one-off welding jobs through to large scale building projects and major transport fabrications. Numurkah Engineering offered a real alternative to travelling to the larger city of Shepparton nearby. It was during this time that Phil Kelly developed a working relationship with Septech in Numurkah.

Over time Numurkah engineering gained more knowledge of the unique complications involved in manufacturing successful moulds for the precast industry.

The input and advice from the management and employees of Septech proved invaluable in improving the quality of the moulds being produced. By working so closely with the end customer, new methods of design and manufacture were employed making the finished mould easier to handle, quicker to strip and requiring less ongoing maintenance.

In 2006 Phil Kelly retired and sold the business as a going concern and new owners took over, they were unsuccessful and turned many of Numurkah Engineering’s loyal customers away through poor customer service, and an unfortunate but necessary, significant increase in hourly labour rates. A legacy from which we are still suffering from today.

Mid 2007 the business was acquired by the Icon-Septech group. Today the core of the business is still manufacturing moulds for the precast industry, both internally and externally. The company also services the structural steel and Transport/Agricultural industries as well as general engineering and repairs, and steel sales to the general public.
